Celtic Love Cup for Weddings

IrishMead.ie has launched its range of traditional Irish Celtic Love Cups, unveiled in advance of The Wedding Show at the RDS where the brand will be exhibiting on 5th and 6th of September. 

The Celtic Love Cup draws on the tradition of the Irish loving cup, or mether, historically shared between a couple during their wedding ceremony as a symbol of unity. Each cup is turned from native Irish trees, including sycamore and ash, and can be fully personalised with the couple’s own inscription, from a Celtic knot to ancient ogham script, and is available in 2.5-inch and 4-inch sizes across a range of designs.

The couple’s names are engraved on the back of every cup, making each piece entirely bespoke.

“The Celtic Love Cup brings a piece of genuine Irish tradition into the wedding ceremony,” said Dr Sean O’Connor, founder of Wild Atlantic Mead. “Tradition has it that both families pour into the cup to signify the union, before the couple themselves drink from it. Because every cup is personalised with the couple’s own inscription and engraved with their names, no two are ever the same.”

The Celtic Love Cup is part of a wider package of bespoke wedding mead from Wild Atlantic Mead, where couples choose their own mead, specially fermented for them and bottled with a bespoke label for use at the reception and as favours for guests. A 20-litre wedding barrel is also available for the reception, so guests can share in the couple’s own mead on the day. Couples attending The Wedding Show at the RDS will be able to view the full range and discuss personalisation options in person.

Part of the proceeds from every Celtic Love Cup goes towards supporting the Inishturk Native Irish Honey Bee Sanctuary, a conservation project on Inishturk Island, Co. Mayo, dedicated to protecting Ireland’s native dark honey bee, Apis mellifera mellifera.
